Memorial Day

On Monday Peter and I met my cousin Brooke and her friend Amy for the annual Memorial Day Service at the Arlington Cemetary. The setting is absolutely gorgeous and it's incredible how it turns your thoughts to those who have served our country. We enjoyed performances from the Air Force Band and heard from President Obama. We love living in this area and being able to take advantage of all the patriotic and historical things around us. It is certainly so humbling to know that so many have sacrificed for our freedom and that so many continue to today.

West Quoddy Head Lighthouse

On Thursday after work in Maine, I drove out to the West Quoddy Lighthouse to check it out. I've always wanted to see a lighthouse on the east coast and it wasn't a far drive, so I took the opportunity while I had it. This lighthouse is located in Lubec, Maine and it is the eastern most part of the Continental U.S. and very close to the Canadian border. It was absolutely gorgeous, so cool in fact that it almost seemed like it was from a movie or in a cartoon. I'm lucky to be able to see such amazing things and meet such interesting people during my travels........... and in my life in general.

Machias, Maine

This week I am in Machias, Maine for work. It is the cutest little town in Northeastern Maine. I drove several hours through the State of Maine the other day and I am in complete awe with how beautiful and charming it is. Here are some pictures of the little town I am staying in. It's right on the river. In fact this picture is the view from my hotel room. I know, amazing!

Colin's Wedding

On Sunday we headed out to a gorgeous estate not far from us where Peter's cousin Colin was getting married. It was so beautiful. It was fun to spend the evening with some extended family and meeting some cousins I have not met before. Here are some pictures from before the wedding.

Briar Woods Prom

Katie and Kimmy, Peter's sisters, had their prom this last weekend. I was lucky enough to help them get ready for it. It was so fun to get them all prettied up. Aren't they so cute?
I actually did Kimmy's hair and makeup. I'll be honest, I'm pretty impressed with myself. How cute is her hair?!They both are such gorgeous girls though that it doesn't take much to make them look amazing.Helping them get ready brought back so many fun memories from high school.

I walked out of our room

and found Peter playing with the tent in the family room. It's camping season!

Can I get an upgrade?

I got a promotion! And with it came my very own office. Goodbye cubicle.

Weekend Delight

This last weekend was a fun one. Friday night we went to dinner at Pei Wei and then Katie Bell's high school musical. They performed Footloose and she was so good! I have seen this on Broadway years ago and so I was a little nervous to see a high school rendition of the show, but Katie made it all worth it. She's so talented at singing and has great comedic timing. She played the wife of the preacher.
On Saturday Peter and I headed out to Maryland to enjoy a hike with some friends at Sugarloaf Mountain. It was so nice to get outside and get a good workout in. The views from the look out points were beautiful.
We ended the night off with going to see Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. Really cute! I liked it. Peter didn't have any tests this coming week and so we were able to relax and play all we wanted.

Peter got me these for Mother's Day.
Love that boy!

My dear Kristin

This last week was my good friend Kristin's birthday and so I thought I would take this moment to describe just how much I love this girl. We met almost 10 years ago as freshman at Utah State University. We lived in Valley View Towers and quickly became friends. As you can tell from her picture she has a very contagious smile. Her giggle is just as contagious. I remember many a late nights in her dorm room just laughing about anything and everything. Kristin is a very sensitive person, she always seems to be attuned to the feelings and needs of others. I've always really admire that she isn't afraid to go out of her way to make a friend. Everyone loves Kristin and everyone is her friend! It's been a pleasure as her friend over the last few years to seen how she has grown. She's constantly taking on new challenging and achieving great things. She always up for fun and for something new. It is very rare that this girl turns down doing something fun.

Kristin has been a great friend to me over the years; always follow up to see how I am doing. I've appreciated all the notes and calls and emails I've gotten from her over the years. She's just one of those girls! Love you Kristin.

Cinco de Mayo

Yesterday Peter and I had a little get together at our house to celebrate the Mexican Independence from the French. We invited several different couples over and had a great night. We served carnitas tacos and some very delicious virgin-margaritas. I think we're going to have to make this an annual tradition.

The Civil War

This last weekend Peter and I went on a hot date to the city to get some dinner and a show. We went to Ford's Theater and saw the musical The Civil War. I've always wanted to go to a show in Ford's Theater because it's such a historical building. As you're sitting in the audience you can look up and see the balcony where Abraham Lincoln was killed. The theater is small and very quaint, so the sound is amazing.

While the show was different than I expected, it was so good. The songs follow the experiences of different people throughout the Civil War intermixed with quotes from famous people at the time like Frederick Douglas and Abraham Lincoln. The singers were so good. I have never heard people just belt out a song with everything they got like that in person before. I loved the upbeat songs the boys sang together, the power they sang those songs with were really impressive.

It was a great night to get out and be in the city, plus I love a little date with my man. And of course I didn't take any pictures of us because I'm lame and always forget to or forget to bring my camera.
